What is FCADVICE?
FCADVICE or FCHELP are part of a direct marketing adware application that probably loaded on your computer with some P2P software.
It installs silently with no license agreement, no entry in Add/Remove Programs or in the Start Menu or elsewhere.
Information from the McAfee database points to possible data being transmitted from the program to the website http://www.fullcontext.net.
How Do I Know If FCADVICE Is Installed on My Computer?
If you use HijackThis create a logfile, you'll notice the following information pointing to FCADVICE
C:\Program Files\FCAdvice\FCAdvice.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - { 994D478A-45D0-4DB4-AE77-288B1E346E99} - C:\Program Files\FCAdvice\FCAdvice.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: Runner.dll
The program uses the "AppInit_DLLs" registry key to ensure it is launched everytime the computer boots. The Runner.dll file is placed in the c:\windows\system32 directory.
The program also creates a FCADVICE directory under Program Files on the hard drive with the following files
fcadvice.dll
fcadvice.exe
patterns.dat
uninstall.exe
How Do I Remove FCADVICE?
1) Boot into Safe Mode to ensure nothing is running in the background
2) Run Hijackthis and remove the following items
O18 - Filter: text/html - { 994D478A-45D0-4DB4-AE77-288B1E346E99} - C:\Program Files\FCAdvice\FCAdvice.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: Runner.dll
3) Open My Computer, Drive C, Program Files
4) Right-click on the FCADVICE folder and delete it
5) Open My Computer, Drive C, Windows, System32 folder
6) Find and delete the Runner.dll file by right-clicking on it and choosing Delete
7) Restart your computer in Normal mode and run Hijackthis again to make sure its gone.
